'Good is good enough’ is the motto that befits Thorlabs. In twenty years time, Thorlabs, Newton USA, grew to become market leader in the field of Photonics Tools. As a result of various takeovers, Thorlabs became a conglomerate of companies.

It all started for Thorlabs in 1990 with an opto-mechanical mirror mount, model KM100. This product was intended as a cheap alternative to the mirror mounts supplied by established companies. Thorlabs’s product “catalogue", which consisted of the mirror mount and a few other mechanical tools, such as posts and postholders, fitted on a doublesided A4 sheet. For Thorlabs, this was the beginning of a success story. The combination of no-nonsense products at reasonable prices, was an immediate success. Meanwhile, Thorlabs has made its mark as supplier of a broad range of Photonic Tools. Thorlabs’ product offering includes opto-mechanics, (fiber)optics, positioning tables, vibration-isolation, lasers and instrumentation.

Customer inspired
Thorlabs is known for its "customer inspired products". Thorlabs is particularly active in listening to the market. Thorlabs welcomes suggestions from customers and uses them to improve products and develop new ones. The Thorlabs catalogue currently has 1500 pages. Almost all products in this catalogue are rapidly deliverable from stock. Thorlabs products have an excellent price/quality ratio!


 Fibers
Thorlabs has an interesting offering of optical glass fibers. All models (Multimode, Single Mode, PM-fiber) are deliverable, if required supplied with a connector and furcation tubing. Custom Patchcoards in any desired length are deliverable within a few working days. Ask for a Quote

Led sources and drivers
Thorlabs supplies all types and models of laser diodes and drivers. Moreover, in Thorlabs most recently published catalogue (V20), the number of LEDs on offer has been extended considerably. Thorlabs has recognized that, next to lasers and laser diodes, LEDs are increasingly used in scientific research. Thorlabs is actively responding to this new trend.

Optics For Research (OFR)
OFR has been a division of Thorlabs since 2007. OFR is a specialist in the field of fiberbench- and optomechanical systems. These products combine glass fiber and classic optical elements such as beam splitters and polarizing optics. Thorlabs regards the takeover of OFR as an excellent addition to its product portfolio. Most OFR products have meanwhile been included in the Thorlabs catalogue.


 MFO lenzen
OFR’s Microspot Focusing Objective lenses are also among the best established products in the industry. With their long work distance, they are especially designed for high power YAG and UV applications.

Optical isolators
OFR has primarily become known for its optical isolators. Through the years, OFR developed more than 100 models. OFR has a broad product range for all laser wavelengths and power levels. Thorlabs has included all of OFR’s standard isolator models in its catalogue. Thorlabs can produce customized models on request.
