Our 2008 catalog presents a vast collection of vibration isolation products from simple, inexpensive desktop isolated microscope bases, to virtually any size stiff and highly damped optical table, to STACIS ® active vibration cancellation systems featuring sensors, piezo crystal stacks and digital controllers. The latest in our long line of innovations includes the Stacis 2100, Electro-Damp ® PZT, and Mag-NetX ™ magnetic field cancellation systems. TMC has been fortunate to be a technology leader in this admittedly very specialized field since our modest start. We made our first self-leveling microscope table in 1969 (TMC started out in 1969 as Backer-Loring Corp., which was spun off in 1979). This table outperformed the only competitive product then available at about half the competitor's price. Our customer was Western Electric in Allentown, PA, and the first of many tables was installed in the building where the first transistor had been made! Since that time, the market for quiet work surfaces has increased dramatically. Our customers include major research centers, OEM and end-user semiconductor manufacturers, microbiology companies, and most recently, anyone involved with nanotechnology. Line widths shrink, microscopes now allow us to look at atoms, and flat panel displays become larger with sharper images. Excessive vibration levels are invariably detrimental, reducing yield and adversely affecting quality and throughput. With few exceptions, everything you see in this catalog has been devel- oped and manufactured at TMC. Vertically integrated manufacturing works extremely well for us. Since we design everything, we can make any complex mechanical structure quickly and cost effectively. No time is lost in misinterpreting specifications and quality expectations, and a typical new product is made with an array of standard building blocks. No surprises surface once parts are released to our production department because the critical elements have already been made in prototype form on the same advanced manufacturing machinery. Roughly half of our sales are custom made – for OEM as well as end users. Please call us right away if you don't find what you want in our standard product section. We would love to quote on a special vibration isolation product for a one-off application. This is how many of our now-standard products first saw the light of day. And don't assume that non-standard products need be expensive and take forever to produce. One of the major advantages of making everything here is that tools such as 3D engineering models can go directly to our own factory floor without missteps and delays.
